Lipid-based nanocarriers as nanomedical devices

16 SEPTEMBER   sveglia 11:00 - 12:30

TT.II - Technical Multi-Track with Parallel SYMPOSIA
Lipid-based nanocarriers as nanomedical devices
Co-organized with ISS
Chairs: Annarica CALCABRINI, Annarita STRINGARO Centro Nazionale Ricerca e Valutazione preclinica e clinica dei Farmaci - ISS
Lipid-based nanocarriers have proven successful in the delivery of mainly chemotherapeutic agents, and currently they are being applied clinically in the treatment of various types of cancer. Among these, lipid-based nanoparticles bear the advantage of being the least toxic for in vivo applications. These drug delivery systems achieve increased therapeutic efficacy by altering the pharmacokinetics and biodistribution of encapsulated drugs, resulting in decreased drug toxicity and enhanced accumulation in tumor tissue. The session "Lipid-based nanocarriers as nanomedical devices" co-chaired by Dr. Annarica Calcabrini (CNRVF – Istituto Superiore di Sanità) and Dr. Annarita Stringaro (CNRVF - Istituto Superiore di Sanità) will focus on lipid nanocarriers used in the drug-delivery sector, in a conceptual path from formulation strategies for site-specific targeting (tissue, cellular and subcellular) to preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies for biomedical application. Some regulatory aspects related to the use of nanostructured medical devices will also be analyzed.
